Chertsey High School
Overview
ECE Planning have received full planning permission for the construction of a new 6 form entry secondary school and sports hall; improved vehicle access, pedestrian access, parking and on-site drop-off/pick-up areas; formal and informal playing areas at Chertsey High School, Addlestone.
Chertsey High School will be a new co-educational school for pupils aged between 11-16 years old. The proposed permanent school will represent a significant investment in the area and education provision within the Borough.
The new school will provide high quality purpose built accommodation, and will reflect the scale of this investment through the use of high quality design solutions to provide excellent teaching and recreational facilities required to meet the school’s needs.
The adopted design approach has reflected the position of the site and the setting within the Green Belt and on the periphery of the urban built form. The building form, layout and use of materials were carefully selected to ensure the development sits comfortably within its environment.
ECE Planning worked alongside Kier Construction, Education Skills Funding Agency and Lee Evans Architecture throughout the evolution of the development, including extensive pre-application discussions with Runnymeade Borough Council.
The project team successfully demonstrated that the new 6 form entry secondary school will represent a significant investment in education provision in Runnymede, widening the education options and reflecting the aspirations and requirements of the local community; and that the proposal represents an efficient and effective re-use of a Brownfield Site.
