Chailey Heritage School
Overview
ECE Planning Managing Director Chris Barker provided expert planning advice on behalf of the Chailey Heritage Foundation in support of the change of use and alterations to the Grade II Listed former Work House. The rejuvenated building would provide accommodation for a Day Centre, supporting young adults with profound physical difficulties.
Working within the restrictions of a Grade II Listed Building, Chris secured planning permission for the change of use and alterations to the building which, prior to the amendments, was identifed on the Council’s ‘Buildings at Risk Register’.
Due to the extent of the changes sought, including signifcant extensions and remodelling of interior spaces, Chris provided a detailed analysis of the value of the heritage asset and, the potential impact of the proposals on the setting, character and visual amenity of the Listed Building.
The new building was opened by HRH Duchess of Cornwall and HRH Duchess of Gloucester on 5 June 2013.
