Bayside
Overview
ECE Planning have secured planning permission for the redevelopment of the Former Aquarena site in Worthing, which has been renamed Bayside.
The proposals include the erection of 141 residential apartments within blocks ranging from 4-15 storeys in height. 42 (30%) of the 141 residential apartments are affordable housing, comprising 20 units for social rent, and 22 shared ownership units.
The scheme seeks to redevelop a dilapidated, brownfield site with a development of the highest architectural quality to provide for much needed residential accommodation as well as 641sqm of commercial space (flexible use) and a seafront café for the residents of Worthing.
The scheme proposed a total of 223 car parking spaces and, as the existing Aquarena site currently acts as a parking area for users of Splashpoint, 51 of the parking spaces are for public use.
It was demonstrated that the scheme provides for an outstanding form of development that will act as the eastern gateway to Worthing, acting as a visual catalyst for change, showing the Town moving forward. The approval gained broad support from Councillors.
