On behalf of our client, Craig Developments, we are delighted to have submitted a full planning application to Worthing Borough Council for proposals to redevelop the former Debenhams site in the centre of Worthing.

While there is no longer the demand for the retail footprint commanded by department stores, such a building is a considerable asset to the community and represents an economic regeneration opportunity.

A mixed-use development is proposed, retail space will be retained and compromise most of the ground floor, with an additional 200m2 of commercial space split over the first and second floors accessible by lift and stairs. The remainder of the building will be converted to 79 residential 1-2 bedroom flats.

With this mixed-use, the proposed development intends to keep the street-level shopping experience alive and vibrant whilst the residential element will bring in over 100 new residents to South Street. Provision of shared areas on site such as a roof-level sky lounge, sky garden, and hot desk area – the aim is for the amenities in the building to facilitate the generation of a sense of community.
