ECE Planning Director Huw James attended Planning Committee to speak in favour of the residential redevelopment of a tightly constrained brownfield site comprising vacant workshop and storage units, located off Norfolk Street, Worthing.

We are delighted to report that Worthing Planning Committee voted in favour of the scheme and granted permission for the demolition of the mostly vacant and dilapidated storage buildings and construction of 6no. residential flats with bin and bike storage, associated landscaping and shared amenity space for residents.

The application was reported to Planning Committee on a number of occasions, including two deferrals for further negotiation and consultation with local residents regarding access improvements as part of the scheme, outside of the Applicant’s ownership.

Senior Planner Rebecca Hoad led the project team and stated,

‘This application comprised of a highly constrained site where the need for good, sensitive design was required. We worked collaboratively with the Applicant on a number of different design solutions and are pleased with the end result.’

The proposals represent an efficient and effective use of this dilapidated site and will be a valuable contribution towards Worthing’s housing needs.
